Brekstad, Airfield.
WB Norwegen, Brekstad Airfield Orland.

This small airfield was used by the Germans; today the airfield is in use by the Norwegian air-force and not open for public. The airfield is just outside the town of Breasted. Follow the road around the airfield and you'll find the bunkers.

We started with the remains of a German hangar; only the huge walls are still standing. Next to it stays a tobruk in the field. Further south is an unknown, small, bunker in a field. From there we went to the west, along the Flak battery and at the other side of the airfield lay a barrack. From there we went to the east on the 710 towards Brekstad and we found a nice  Vf bunker, probably a storage facility. 100m further down the road, near the school, lays a warehouse facility.

Types:
1x Barrack.
1x Warehouse facility.
1x Hangar.
1x Vf bunker.
1x Tobruk58c.
1x Unknown bunker.

Brekstad, Airflied.
WB Norwegen, Heavy Flak Battery Meldalen.

South of the airfield Orland, along the main road leading along the airfield lays the battery. The bunkers are located in the fields so be careful and ask for permission.

This heavy Flak battery is build out of light bunkers and constructed around 1942-1943. We have found three emplacements for heavy Flak, probably 8,8cm. Furthermore there are two emplacements for a searchlight. The site is completed by some barracks. The whole site is re-used after the war by the Norwegian army who stayed there till approximately 1990. Inside the barracks are the modifications clearly visible.

Types:
3x Flak emplacement, heavy.
2x Searchlight emplacement.
2x Barrack.
Brekstad, Fort Austrått
WB Norwegen, Art.Gr. Örlandet, M.K.B. Örlandet 4/507, Fort Austrått, 3x28cm.

Take the 710 from Brekstad towards Opphaug and turn right towards the Fort Austratt. The fort is clearly showed on the road signs. The battery is located in the small forest.

The battery is nowadays a museum; there is a guided tour around the triple gun turret. The bunkers for the close defence are closed for public, only if you ask permission they might open it. The gun turret is one of the three turrets of the German battleship Gneisenau; the other two were placed at Fjell (Norway) and Rotterdam (Netherlands).
The gun turret has several levels, such as shell platform, cartridge platform and gun platform. The shells came in at the bottom and worked their way up, receiving the cartridges and getting ready to fire from the three 28cm guns. The whole installation looks still very nice, the Norwegian army used the battery for a while and so the installation is very intact.
The maximum range of the guns was 42,6km; the guns have never seen action and the only shells that were fired were test-rounds.
The gun is mounted on a concrete base and connected to several underground tunnel systems for the crew, ammunition, storage and all the other supporting facilities. The entrances of these two tunnels are at the back, the tunnels are blown out of the rocks and they are very impressive.
The close defence was given by several Tobruks, anti-tank obstacles and a beautiful 631 4,7cm PAK casemate. The 631 has a renovated 4,7cm gun inside, the entire mechanism still works, you can lift the armoured plate manual!

Types:
1x Gun emplacement for 28cm S.K.C/34, triple turret gun tower C Gneisenau battle ship.
1x Supporting tunnel.
1x Ammunition tunnel.
1x 631 Embrasured emplacement for 4.7cm fortress anti-tank gun (t).
1x 621 Group bunker.
1x 622 Twin group bunker.
3x Barracks.
2x Tobruk58c.
1x Tank-wall.
1x Tank-obstacles.
Brekstad, Aune.
WB Norwegen, Art.Gr. Örlandet, M.K.B. Örlandet 4/507, Fire-control bunker Fort Austrått.

Follow the 710 from Brekstad towards Opphaug, at the roundabout, take the exit towards Aune. The bunker lies on top of the big hill that is clearly visible. The bunker lays near military terrain but there is a small road leading up the hill next to the quarry, see for exact position the GPS data.

The bunker, an S 446 is the fire-control bunker for the battery at Fort Austratt. The bunker is closed but the armoured observation part is very impressive. The steel ring on the roof was the place where the range-finder was mounted. This range-finder is nowadays placed next to the gun at Fort Austratt. Furthermore there is a tobruk and a mounting for Wurzburg radar next to the road leading up the last part of the hill.

Types;
1x S446 Fire control post for heavy battery.
1x Tobruk58c.
1x Socle for Würzburg Riese radar.
