In the dunes between Oostvoorne and Rockanje lies a beautiful bunker complex. The bunkers are already damaged, so in order to prevent further damage, we are very cautious and restrictive in giving the exact location of the bunkers.

The complex was of the 'Luftwaffe' and contained several Flak emplacements that are all covered today. The big bunker in the centre is a quite rare L480 "Wasserman" radar bunker. The bunker had a radar that would detect enemy aircrafts. Around the site there are several supporting bunkers such as a 622 personnel bunker, a L413 ammunition bunker, that is also very rare. Lots of Tobruks, tunnels and Vf bunkers are making this complex complete.
The bunkers are in a very good condition. Lots of drawings, finishing's, lines, decoration and so on are still there. There were quite a few fresco's on the walls, but nowadays they are gone (demolished) for the most part.

The Wassermann antenna and the Biber bunker where also used in connection with the Klein Heidelberg radar systems the Germans developed during the war. This was a so called "passive" radar system that was NOT sending a signal by its self, but used the reflection of the British radar signals towards their own airplanes.
This is a short and simple explanation, for more recent research about the "Klein Heidelberg" system read this paper of Prof. Hugh Griffiths. Click here.
