Sydney, Newington Armoury.

In the 2000 Olympic Park in Sydney is a large ammunition depot build; you can cycle or walk from inside the Olympic Park towards the nearby river. The Newington Armoury is nowadays a nice tourist attraction and easy to find and there are lots of maps and street signs giving you the right direction.

The depot was constructed in 1897 and continued serving as an ammunition magazine till 1999. The RANAD, Royal Australian Navy Armament Depot, had several large ammunition magazines, a small railway and a small loading dock under its control. The depot finally had to move in 1999 with the encroaching suburbs and the upcoming Olympic games from 2000. Today the complex is restored and open for the public, there are some interesting buildings and the whole site looks really nice, it's a nice example of how a logistic complex looks like.

Types:
>15 Ammunition magazines.
1x Loading dock with cranes.
Sydney, La Perouse.
Henry Head.

Located in the southern part of Sydney, in the suburb called La Perouse. The best way to enter the site is through the golf course, you can walk from their parking place towards the coast and then you'll find the bunkers.

The battery was constructed in 1891 but later on abandoned. With the outbreak of WW2 the battery became operational again and became part of the defence of Sydney and the harbour entrance of Botany Bay. The battery contained 2 6inch guns and 2 47mm naval guns which were placed in 2 casemates and 2 open emplacements. Today most of the bunkers remain and you can walk around the site and enter most of the bunkers. It; nice to see these light constructed casemates because they look a bit like the early version casemates we've seen in Europe,
One of the emplacements is linked with an underground complex for storage and personnel, the tunnels and the rooms are still a reasonable condition and there are some nice details such as a couple of stairways.

Types:
2x Casemate for 6inch gun.
2x Emplacement for 47mm naval gun.
1x Fire-control bunker.
1x Unknown bunker.
1x Underground complex for storage and personnel.

Sydney, La Perouse.
Bare Island.

Located in the northern part of Sydney, in the village La Perouse. Follow the road to the coast and the fort will be visible. The island, because it is a fort island, is open for public on certain times on sunday only with a guided tour!
We only had a chance to walk around the fort but that also was quit impressive.

The construction of the fort started in 1877 but it took quit a while before the fort was actually finished but in 1902 the fort was decommissioned and from 1912 it served as a retirement place for veterans. This continued till 1963 and after that the island had no more military use.
We could only see some bunkers on the outside of the island, as well as a large protection wall on the sea side of the island.

1x Fort Island.
